Trading Technology - Power requirements

Trading floors need to have a good power supply system which is reliable, meets the needs of the business and has good standby facilities. This is normally achieved with a combination of mains electrical supply, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and standby generator. Ensuring a cost effective solution to this can be quite a challenge.

We can help calculate and document the power loads needs for the trading floor and back office. This process needs careful analysis and research. We can then help the client select an appropriate UPS facility to meet their on-going business needs and assist in choosing the best placement for the UPS. We can help to design the power distribution cabling layout and switching so that all area's are correctly served and also to reduce single points of failure. In the past we have designed special power sockets for installation in the trading floor to segregate building power from UPS power. We can advise on power load shedding strategies to help clients make best use of limited UPS power.

We have advised on power needs estimation for Technology rooms, the design of power switching and power cable routing for technology racks, including remote control scenarios. We've validated plans for the electrical earth bonding of raised floors and technology installations. We shown technology teams how to create and maintain power load plans for technology rooms.

We can assist the planning to install or upgrade standby generator facilities and help the client to plan for implementation and on-going testing of the generator facilities. We've advised in the past on the location of fuel tanks for generators, the safety issues and fuel delivery strategies.
